A remake of the Korean classic horror game

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a horror adventure game made by Sonnori. This game is the official remake of the Korean survival horror game of the same name released in 2001. Here, you play as a high school student trying to survive a dangerous night inside his high school.

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School follows the original gameplay of players solving puzzles while avoiding the janitor, who is out to kill you. Moreover, you also have to interact with the NPC, which affects the story's ending. However, long-time fans will find the experience less scary.

Vs. the original

The first White Day: A Labyrinth Named School game was released in 2001. Back then, the game developed a cult following and gained a reputation as one of the scariest games. In fact, the game was so scary that players emailed the developers to request for a less frightening version. This time, players will not only see various difficulty levels but new semi-modern graphics and animations.

The new version follows the same story and gameplay as the original. You play as a Korean male student, Lee Hee-Min, who returned to his school one night to return his crush's diary and to give her a White Day gift. However, he finds himself trapped in the building with three other students and a killer janitor. He must solve the dark secrets of the school to survive.

There are no weapons in the game, and you can only survive the janitor by running and hiding. Besides solving puzzles, you also have to interact with the other students to progress the story. There are eight possible endings, decided by your choices. However, long-time fans will find the game less scary, especially when played with high brightness. Some will also find the puzzles too obscure.

Do not match the modern horror heights

Overall, this modern version of White Day: A Labyrinth Named School has some good scares and challenging puzzles. However, while it may flourish back in the day, it will not hold a candle to modern horror games. The antagonist is more of a hindrance than a jump scare as you play longer. Moreover, while it has a modern look, the performance could still use polishing.
